Westview
High School completed - named one of Best of California
The
$51 million Westview High School is complete, and was named
one of California Construction Link magazines' "Best
of California" for Education projects. The project will
be featured in the December 2002 edition. There were only
two educational projects awarded this honor in the Southern
region of the state.
The new
Poway Unified School District high school encompasses 211,000
square feet on 22 buildings on a 63-acre site. In addition
to classrooms, laboratories, resource areas, a performing
arts center, fine arts studios, day care center and administration
spaces, the new school will include a football stadium with
concrete bleachers, a 40,000 square foot gymnasium and locker
room facilities, basketball and tennis courts, as well as
baseball, softball, and other sports fields, and a swimming
pool. The school features the latest in technology infrastructure
and computer networking capabilities. Open House festivities
were held Saturday, November 23.
The school
was designed by NTD Architects in San Diego, with Richard
Nowicki, Mark Thomas, Joye Ferrar, and Sami Conley staffing
the project. Construction began in November of 2000 by general
contractor Douglas E. Barnhart, Inc.

Representatives
for the Poway Unified School District were Linda Williams,
Director of Facilities and Doug Mann, Director of Maintenance
and Operations. Working on the project for Barnhart were Sr.
Project Manager Mike Derouin; General Superintendent Clay
Maki; Superintendents Steve Radford, Paul Turner, Jim Morris,
and Pat Anderson; Project Engineer Lex Economou; and Project
Manager/Estimator Stan Streit. Mary Hangar and Jamie Roberts
managed the field office.
